Seeing the astonishment on the lady’s face, Alice nodded, her own eyes growing bigger with understanding of just how strange it was to publicly deny a marriage proposal. “It did seem like that’s what everyone expected of me. Everyone else was choosing my life for me. I showed up to my own engagement party, unaware that it was that. An artist was even painting us in the gazebo as he asked for my hand.” Pausing a moment, she laughed at that, wondering whatever happened to that painting. “It seemed the whole world was watching me. Waiting for my acceptance. It came as quite a shock to all involved when I declined. I even lifted my skirts and did a dance on the way out.” Alice’s chin raised and a proud grin appeared on her face.
“To tell you the truth, I’m not sure what I would have done without that journey. I was truly lost and so unsure of what to do. I knew what I wanted, but not how to achieve it. Everything that I just told you, I wouldn’t think myself capable of, if I had heard it before then. That it all would be completely impossible. But I’ve learned that anyone is capable of the impossible, as long as they can believe that impossible things aren’t that. Believe that you can do anything.”
"No person should ever become a thing. A trophy. It’s appalling.” She had become so wrapped up in her story and thoughts of Underland, that she sighed and looked off into space. Everything was just so much different in that world. “How I wish I could take you there. I’m sure you would find an abundance of ideas and solutions; it is a place of wonders, after all.” Alice never meant to slip and tell her that it was an actual place. A real journey that she took, but it was too late to take it back.
{ ♔ } - - - - - A chuckle slipped from the girl’s lips as she listened to Alice tell what happened. "You lifted your skirts and did the dance? What an exit!” she exclaimed in amusement and fascination once again. “I wish I was there during that moment.” she added with a grin.
Kaitlyn listened to the girl’s apparent wise words as a small smile crept to her lips. “I think I’ll hold on to those words. They really sound helpful. Your journey must have been enlightening.” she mused quite wistfully. “I actually oppose when people say that one can achieve anything impossible if they believe it’s possible but seeing not a proof, I was skeptical. But here’s proof, she’s now here in front of me. But maybe I already had proof before; perhaps I was just blind or too busy to notice. I guess I kind of believe now.”
“Well, that’s what annoys me. Besides being offered as a trophy wife, people even call me a trophy as if I were really one. It tires me, really. I guess it’s the price for being a lord’s daughter.” she said. Then upon hearing Alice’s next words, the brunette raised a brow. “Pardon me, but … did you just say ‘take you there’? Is that even possible? A-a place of wonders?” she asked, slightly confused.
When the girl reached out and affectionately squeezed Alice’s hand, she made up her mind. That Kaitlyn had a kind heart....
“If only the world was not so judgmental than perhaps I could’ve fought back as well. But there were too many critics...
