19. My character singing to yours.
“Have you ever tried to sing?” the pyrokinetic suddenly asked her as she was about to take her glass of juice, surprising Kaitlyn as it was a long time ago when someone asked her that question. And she was barely 9 before; now she was 19.
The brunette scoffed, shrugging her shoulders as she leaned back on the couch. “Sure, I have. You know, just humming. Nothing big.” she replied, crossing her arms. “Don’t tell me you’re gonna-”
“Exactly!” Jacqueline cut her off with an excited look printed on her face. “I want to hear you sing! You know what they say: girls who are secretive are the best singers.”
Christ, is she this obsessed to hear me sing that she hasn’t even laid a finger on her orange juice? Another scoff came from the hunter. “You just made that up. Besides, I’m not that secretive!” she protested, throwing a pillow at Jackie which she caught and threw back, only it hit her in the chest. “Like hell. Pretty please? I just really think that you’d be a good singer if you actually sang! C'mon, it’s just you and me here anyway.”
Kaitlyn sighed. Quarreling with Jacqueline was 90% of the time useless. She either went around or cut you off. “Fine.” she finally said, causing her friend to smirk in triumph.
Timidly, she began by clearing her throat then began to sing.
“I said, remember this moment
In the back of my mind
The time we stood with our shaking hands
The crowds in stands went wild.”
“We were the kings and the queens
And they read off our names
The night you danced like you knew our lives
Would never be the same.”
She paused for a moment to glance at Jacqueline only to see a bright smile adorning her face, clearly pleased that her request was granted. Though Kaitlyn rarely sang, she was fairly good. Like the mischievous girl she was, she threw the pillow right at Jackie’s face before continuing.
“You held your head like a hero
On a history book page
It was the end of a decade
But the start of an age.”
“Long live the walls we crashed through
While the kingdom lights shined just for me and you
I was screaming, long live all the magic we made
And bring on all the pretenders, one day we will be remembered.”
And there, she was finished. She let out a breathe before realizing that Jackie was clapping. “I told you so. You know, you’re better than you think.” she said before taking the glass of juice prepared for her on the coffee table.
Kaitlyn was an arrogant one but she wont boast anything on this one so she just gave a mere shrug. She also got her glass and raising it towards the pyrokinetic. “Cheers?”
Jacqueline gave a nod as she lightly bumped her glass against the other girl’s giving a smile. “Cheers and long live the queen.”
A soft chuckle slipped from the brunette’s lips at her friend’s words. “No, long live the queens.”
