Shades of Blood and Darkness || Kaitlyn and Valerie

redridinghood-valerie:

“The wolf comes out. Kills people. We, here, believe that such a creature was for the sole purpose or chaos and fear.” she replied wistfully. Blue-green hues stared at the brunette as she notices that her friend was watching the village with anticipation. Of course it’d be surprising at first with everything so different and opposite to where Kaitlyn lived; she lived outside the forest and Valerie heard that beyond the grove of trees, everyone was happier. Unlike them, always wary of the wolf.

“The wolf that’s currently prowling about is the second we’ve had. Another came before the one now.” she explained though she wasn’t gonna start that it was actually the third she had encountered. Her father was the first, the second was Peter, and the third was naught but an unknown being. No one was even sure if said person lived in Daggerhorn or out there.

“Yes, that’s why I moved. And the werewolf, um …” she tucked a lock of hair behind her ear. “I was the only who he could communicate with, talk to. Because of that, I was used a bait. I was humiliated and accused for being a witch. For years, the wolf lived off us but it … disappeared a month ago only to be replaced by another. Much worse, I should say.”

{ ♔ } - - - - -     “The way you say it, then I guess it is a creature of chaos and extreme danger that causes fear.” the brunette replied, walking forward with her guide. “So … that’s already considered a lot. I can’t imagine how scared all the kids are whenever the wolf comes around. Once would be enough but twice is just too much. But does it hunt here only? Or does it hunt in other places as well? As far as I’ve seen, I haven’t even encountered one yet. Even if I live just a mile way from here.”

After listening to the blonde narrate what happened to her during those times, Kaitlyn could not help but give her a pat on the shoulder hoping it’d comfort her. It was the least she could do to help a friend even though they just met an hour ago.

“But why would they do that? Who did so? They don’t have proof that you’re a witch, they just know you can talk to the werewolf. Bloody superstitions and whatnot.” she sighed. Over the horizon, she failed to notice the sun setting, signalling the coming of darkness and the eventual arrival of the werewolf.
